Underlay sections

The art of underlaying sections is a pretty handy one to  master.  You can take ordinary grouped data and turn it into something very nice looking with very little effort.

Turn this:

Into This:

1. Open your report that you wish to alter, it should contain at least one group with some columns within the detail section.

2. Once your report is open, from the tool bar, Report menu, click Section Expert.

3. In the Sections area, click to highlight Group Header #1, then click the box next to Underlay Following Sections and click OK.

4. Press F5 to refresh and review the results.

Hint: You can draw a line in Group Footer #1 to better seperate the results

QUICK TIP

The Left Outer Join includes all records in the primary table that have an exact match in the secondary table but also all records that don’t have a match in the secondary table. The Left Outer and Right Outer joins are useful when creating reports to find participants without information in their record.
